    how much welding is needed?

    Hi,

I'm building an A-frame lathe stand which measures 2' x 2' at the base, and stands 2' high. At the top of the stand is a 24" x 10" sheet of 1/2" steel, and there is another 5/16" sheet steel shelf 8" below that, which braces the legs. The legs are made of 2" square steel tube. I'm planning another shelf lower down the legs.

I have an excess of 0.1" thick 4" x 7' corrugated steel, which I'd like to cut to length and wrap around the structure as cladding , both to increase the rigidity/sturdiness and also for looks.

My question is whether each strip of cladding needs to be welded to the base/adjacent strips along its entire length (a lot of welding!), or just at a few key points?

Will post a couple of pics in the next post. Thanks in advance for your advice,

    Lee

Lee, a 1/3 skip weld should be fine.

Just what I was hoping to hear!
