I will be starting to make cabinet doors for my first kitchen project and wondering what people use for the flat panel (no raised panel). I have a matched set of Freeborn cutters and I can shim the 1/4 to accept the best choice of wood. The doors will be painted, so also considering what will take paint best. My goal is to have a surface that stays flat, takes paint good, and can contribute to a stronger structure by the use of glue to secure the panel. The joinery is cope and stick with a standard stub tenon. I guess stub tenons are the standard practice, but seems like it will invite a failed joint with time, thus the thought of reinforcing the joint with a good glue bond of the panel in the stick. I've used urea two part glue for a lamination project and thinking that would be a good choice to secure the panels. Choice of wood? MDF, baltic birch, maple ply.
Ideas on wood choices and glue appreciated
