    Laundry Cabinets :)

Just so you all know who I am My name is Levi Durston... obviously, hence the name... haha I'm 17 years old and have been working with wood since I was 10 years old and have been LOVING it ever since!
Lately I've done a lot of cabinetry when I have the time. With that, I'm hoping to begin starting my business, 'Hands made for wood".
ANYWAYS! Enough of talking and I'll show you some pics of my latest piece of work that I've been working on.

My aunt had asked me if I was interested in building her some cabinets for her laundry room. And so of course I agreed to I started with designing the cabinets and tweeking the draft I made below to please her, I used google sketchup for this.

I then started working! The pictures show about a weeks work or so.. I haven't been able to work on it this past week but I'm hoping to finish it up next week keep posted for pics! and I hope you enjoy!

here's some pics of the doors propped up in the face frames... I'm just waiting for the hinges and latches to arrive!
Next is the shelves, which I'm hoping to get done two weeks from now because I have a lot of studying the rest of april here.
Over all I'm actually quite pleased with how things turned out!

    Levi,
I really like your design. Laundry room or not, they are very, very nice! They have character in the detail you have put into them. Keep posting.

Very nice work, you have a good head start on most of us older folks.

How did you accommodate fitting the cabinets between the walls? Did you just build them very tight with little tolerance? Or did you leave some play in the joints between the cabinets that you could adjust when you installed?

Was the crown attached pre-install, or did you put the cabinets in, then install the crown? Either way, very nice fit and finish.

Given how out of square most houses are, I would be nervous to do that.

I don't like it. My wife paused as she was walking by, took one look and said, "wow, what is that?".

"Why do you ask?", I asked.

    "Oh just wondering", she said.

"It's a laundry cabinet; made by a seventeen year old for his aunt", I said.

    "Quite impressive", she said.

Seriously, nice work; and welcome to the creek.

First of all thank you for all your compliments! Between your kind words and my love for working the wood it keeps me going!

In answer to your question, I measured VERY carefully VERY. haha I installed the side cabinets first; leaving the middle cabinet to be installed. I did, I believe leave around a quarter inch for movement in the cabinet boxes... from wall to wall. It fit in perfect. I was crossing my fingers as I was installing the middle box! haha
I then installed the face frames. After the FF, I installed the crown molding. The laundry room wasn't an original room, so things were quite square for the most part, which definitely helped out a lot!
I hope this answers your questions! I also have pics of the whole process up to this point, if you're interested.

Thank you all again! It means so much!

Nice Job! The center cabinet angled inset lower rail must of took some time. Only point I would bring up is it seems like you need to fill that gap behind the lowest center rail so you cant see through to the wall from the sides.

It's impossible not to sound juvenile about it, but you might consider changing the name of your business before you start getting signs and business cards made. You might attract the wrong kind of clientele... That said, your laundry cabinets look awesome!

What I have been considering doing is having a little 'tag' to go along with my name such as "Hands made for wood cabinetry" ... "Hands made for wood furniture restoration"
Along those lines... What I do like about "hands made for wood" is it's a name I think people will remember and adds creativity to the name instead of say "Long Jon's Cabinetry" haha
I do appreciate your input! So thank you!
