    Walnut Table, Chairs & Benches

It seems like I have been working on this set forever. I have moved three times with work since I started. Table first, then the benches and I have finally finished the chairs. Mostly Neander but I did use a few tailed Devils along the way. All joints mortise & tenon. I find chopping mortises therapetic. I turned a shallow hollow in the seat bottoms with a lathe. My own design. A mix of Danish Modern, Art Nouveau, and a few other infulences. Danish oil finish.

Very nice Deane! I like your design. The geometry of the supporting legs of the table, chair and benches has a smooth, inviting feeling to it.

I also like the BENCHES. Are they your design or do you have a print.

Walnut in the title would indicate that is walnut, wouldn't it.

That is very nice Dean! I love the originality of it. I also love chopping mortises by hand as well, in fact most things with hand tools is very theraputic. Sometimes I just sharpen up one of my plane blades and make random shavings for no reason but to make shavings in scrap. I would love to see some more close up shots of just one piece at a time to make out your details a little better.

Way to fair a curve Deane. Beautiful lines. Well worth the extended effort. Of course, I love walnut; doesn't everybody?

    Brilliant.

I like the table leg/stretcher combination.
It's like "Modern Cathedral" design - timberframes that soar.

It's a genuine pleasure to see something new that was carefully built.
