    Red Oak day

    DSC_2635.jpgDSC_2636.jpgDSC_2643.jpg

I cut out Red Oak crotch blanks today. Had a bear of a time with this one as a nice chunk decided it wanted no parts of being a bowl! Forced me to cut down the size abit, loosing a touch of what was some really pretty feathering

Looks to me like you got it tamed, Ken!!!! I like that rim, and may try one on an upcoming bowl I'm working on.

P.S. Your signature photo makes room for a comment to you that I was successful with my muzzleloader and I'm waiting for my late season whitetail peperoni to come back from my processor.

Ken looks like you had a fun time. I have one draw back with red oak... THE SMELL. I turn in my basement and it stinks the whole house up. Someday I will have a shop, I hope. Nice job on another project.

Mike, I never tagged abuck this year, never saw one worth putting down, plenty of meat in the freezer though. I do all my own meat processing and make all types of smoked meats

Russell, red oak is my favorite haha. I love the smell of it in my woodstove, smells about the same in the shop when turning, to me anyway haha

Oklahoma is on the way to Ken's and Baxter's... Let me know if the trip actually comes together, Jim!

I didn't know Red Oak could look so good. Beautiful work Ken.

I turned another one after this one that looks even better IMO as far as the feathering goes. I have an even bigger red oak crotch waiting on me, but it will require my big saw and I just cant seem to find the strength to start the big rascal LOL!

The bowl looks great! I really like the rich color!

Jim - when you do your road trip - be sure to stop in at my shop. Its right on the way...

Crotches can be crotchety - sometimes hard to predict the outcome. This one has a lot of action though.

Aint that the trutrh Dan. These crotches were cut and set aside a year ago. The shavings were damp but my faceshield didnt even get wet or need wiped off haha! I am "hoping" that alot of the stress has been displaced, but fingers crossed just in case

Ken, it may have been a bear, but it looks like you tamed it! I like the rim treatment, and the grain is fantastic.
