    I do exactly just that for most of my tools - 6" to the tool - reduce to port size at that point. I left my 6" jointer at 4" because I didn't think 6" would make a difference. I can't complain, everything works as well as i could expect.

    I think the limiting factor in most collection situations are the ports on the machines - some are very poorly designed - you could hook up a 20hp blower to these and not get everything.
