    cuts like butter

Granddaughter getting married. Thought I'd make salt & pepper mills.
Had section of dogwood that I had applied paraffin to the ends years (?) ago. Dry no checks. Hotdog.

Then get bark off and down to the good stuff.

Take a look at these "curls" that spiraled off.

Hope I don't screw up the final steps.

Jim, did you check the serial numbers?
If you do you'll find they are not even sequential.

If not butter, it could be paraffin. I suppose you just turned away everything that didn't look like a pepper mill? Is there a mill left somewhere?

Thanks to all who have posted.
well they are not finish by a long shot but here's where they stand.
I roughed both out of one section of trunk then separated them.
Still have the chuck ends so I can bore out. That is what I'm up tight about.
They are sitting on top of the silver chest that is also unfinished.
Wedding is May 22 so I've got a little time to think things over regarding
    which steps to take next..

Here's the finished mills. Have not loaded with salt & pepper yet.
But they look and turn like they might work.
