I would like to purchase power woodcarving tools for putting designs into hollow forms. Any suggestions? Any comments on Foredom?

You cannot buy a better quality rotary tool than Foredom. Period.
I have a "mastercarver" carving set. Two rotary handpiece and one "jackhammer type" handpiece. It works well for me. A bit cheaper than the foredom. BIts are interchangable with Fordom.
No PHD, but I have a DD 214
For bulk removal and roughing work nothing beats the "Holey Galahad"...I use it for carving seat pans. Do a google search you should find them...

I use the Foredom Tx kit for power carving my turnings. Works very well for piercing and surface texturing and is considered best in it's class. It is not as delicate as the dental drill type carving tools favored by Bin Pho and others, but it is a great tool that will work for a very long time. I also use an Arbortech mini grinder for bulk removal.
