    I found myself in the mood to make shavings...

    Here is what I came up with. I have a few old crossarms that I brought home from work. I was just curious what was under that tough shell. I'm not very good with grain ID so does anybody else know what this looks like. The color is likely tinted from the treatment, pentachlorophenol.

    Its fun to make a pile of clean shavings just for the joy of the process. You neanders are rubbing off on me.

    That would be my first guess but I really don't know woods well enough by eye. Its a common species for poles, crossarms, braces, etc. though.
