    relief carving - handles

I want to make some drawer handles, low profile, by removing wood from a 3/4" front drawer panel and have the remaining wood be the handle. Are there any examples of this design style you guys know of? I am a moderate/beginner carver.

    Thanks in advance.

Here's a few pics of a roll-top jewelry box I made from plans in an old Fine Woodworking magazine. When you pull the drawer out, the top slids back at the same time. The handle was made by removing the bulk of the surrounding wood with various bandsawed beveled cuts, then using gouges and hand planes to refine the shape. This method would also work on a larger scale such as your drawer fronts.
