"page X of Y" has incorrect and non-constant Y value

I have a bookmarked search to show new posts in the fora in which I'm interested. When I go there, it always shows "page 1 of 5" even if there are many more pages. When I click on page 2, it then shows "Page 2 of 6". Clicking on 3 gives "Page 3 of 7", etc. until I hit the end.

The same thing happens if I just hit "new posts"

If I click on an individual forum, however, it does show "Page 1 of 2323".

I filled out a similar report a couple of weeks back. I believe the consensus was this was simply how the vBulletin dB code works (unfortunately), trimming the results page count to 100 posts, even though more posts exist.

There are several complaints of this on vBulletin.com forums.. They have yet to respond to anyone as to "why", and I can't find it in the bug reports, so we can only speculate it has to do with an optimization.
