    Jewelry Boxes

Just in time for Christmas I finished the jewelry boxes for my four nieces (and one for the wife of course). This project tested some new skills. I had to work with thicker stock so had to extremely fine tune my TS due to my lack of planer and jointer. I had to make three different templates, one for the heart and two for the butterfly. The butterfly inlays were trying but turned out great IMHO. Also, I custom fit each of the sliding dovetails and made 1/4" dowels for the key.

The project is walnut and maple. Approx 6x6x4. The bases came from a solid turning blank and the heart was routed with the CMT bowl bit and extension. The inlay is also walnut and was completed using an inlay bit and collet set. Finish is 2 coats BLO, one poly, and the face had a final coat of buffed paste wax. And I got to try out my new branding iron from Rockler

    Thanks for looking!
