Building butcher block counter top

I guess this question is more for the SoCal residents. Are there any good wood suppliers between San Diego and Temecula that can supply me with enough rock maple to build a 7' x 4' kitchen island top.

Never built a kitchen island so I guess any design tips would be greatly appreciated too ! I think I may cheat and use prefab oak base cabinets though. What can I say I am running short on time and I need to match existing cabinets.

I found a piece of bowling ally rock maple 5' by 8' by 3" thick for $80 on craigslist took it apart ran it through the plainer glued it up home depot wanted $700 for a piece only 1 1/2 thick.
