Sugar Maple clock & moonshine jug !

The sugar maple is 9 1/2" with a 6" clock face. This beautiful piece of wood is figured nicer than my photo skills demonstarte. It's about 1 1/4" thick. I turned this small piece from a cutoff of some 12/4 lumber I bought at a lumber auction. Finish is Danish oil buffed and then R/wax final.

Just for grins... I turned the jug from a solid red oak log laying on my woodpile. The top is made from an unkown tight grained exotic. Dimensions are about 10" to the top and about 6" across. Makes a very heavy doorstop if nothing else.

Not the eye-popping turnings so often posted on the Creek, but they are fun to make and share.

    Cheers,
    Terry

Gorgeous clock, Terry! Great wood and finish, too.
The jug is also great! I love the particle board 'cork'. Question: is this a box? Or is it solid... you did mention, "it makes a very heavy doorstop"....
Now that jug is definitely thinking outside of the box.

That is a great looking clock with some really nice wood! The jug has a nice down home look as well.

    Allen,

Thanks for the comments. Actually I glued the top to the oak. I didn't spend a great deal of time becasue I figured it would check some more since the oak is actually a log with the pith in the center. That small log was drying out of the weather for about 3 years and still it continues to check and split after it was completed! BTW- the cork is actually cork from a large sea salt jar.

    cheers,
    Terry

Cool pieces. I really like the jar. Might just have to borrow that.

Nicely done on both. I like the clock, and I can see plenty of figure in those photos. The 'shine jug is really cool looking, and it's a pretty creative use for firewood.

Beautiful Maple! It almost looks like a dense maple burl. The jug is a nice visual.

Nice work on both, Terry! The jug is really cute and whimsical - nice use of some odds and ends. The clock is really eye catching. Beautiful wood, and very nicely proportioned.

Terry - nice work on both items!

Really like the clock - the wood is amazing! Did you turn it off center or is that just camera angle?

Jug is a cool idea! Real piece of folk art!
