I've got two pieces of wood I need help identifying. Both are very heavy.
I've got two pieces of wood I need help identifying. Both are very heavy.
Top - Goncalo Alves
Bottom - Brazilian Cherry
There's no such wood as Brazilian cherry. Flooring manufacturers made the name up for marketing purposes. Sorry it just bugs the heck out of me when I see that as a wood name.

Excuse me.
Brazilian Cherry/Jatoba/Hymenaea courbaril
Didn't realize a coommon name for a wood would offend anyone.
Kind of like "Wormy Chestnut" describes Chestnut that that was stricken by a blight. Common name.

The vase is Goncalo Alves and the covered bowl is called Brazilian Cherry in the US market, Jatoba in Brazil and Azucar huayo in Peru.
Hope this helps.
