    JDS Bright Laser Medals

We have the JDS Bright Laser Medals. When we first tested them they worked great. Now it seems that they either wont engrave evenly or they have the look of burnt metal once they are engraved. Have people used them with success? We use 30Watt PLS360 machines. Thanks.

    Matt,

Do you mean VLS360 machines? Have you verified your optics are clean?

I have been using them and they do have problems. Some of them laser good and some are discolored after lasering. I had a whole case that when I took the protective paper off the back, the back had bad lines from the paper. It was like they were not dry when packaged. Be careful about cleaning them. I wiped the back with alcohol trying to get some stuff off and it wiped the paint off. Other than the problems discussed, they look very nice.

We have used them as well with mixed results on our epilog 35w laser. We have stopped using them since just a little rubbing alcohol will take the paint off.

Thanks for the info. I'm sure why there is confusion about my laser, it is a PLS 360 from Universal Laser. After posting we opened a few boxes of them and they all had the white lines on the back! I hope we just get rid of them also.

    Matt,

How old is the system? I ask because the PLS series is 4.60/4.75 these days... not aware of a 3.60 from the past. The VLS series has a 3.60, hence my question.

Probably about the same age as mine, a couple of years. I've not asked anyone why, but they have changed model numbers for some reason. The 4.60 we have is looks be now be called a 4.75, so it's a PLS4.75, but it was a PLS4.60 when we bought it. I'm guessing it was only going up to 60watts when we bought it, now that platform goes to 75watts.

    But I think the smaller machine, 24" x 12" table was a PLS3.60.

Oops, meant to write 4.75, not 4.70... edited post. I didn't realize they made the PLS in a smaller bed than 24x18.

Now that I look at their website, I was always under the impression my machine could handle two cartridges... according to the website, it appears the 6 series is required for that. <sigh>
