    Home Theater/Media Room

    Good Day to the Creek!

I am finally in the last stages of getting another one one my projects that got a little out of hand.
Our basement was unfinished and in mid Feb. and I decided to clean it up and build a few walls. In the process it was decided to move our TV room from the second floor family room and build a proper home theater room in the basement.

I thought to cut down on the heat from equipment and noise it would be best to not have it in the room. So at the bottom of the stairs the equipment was built into the wall. Access is from the room behind.

As the hunt went on for the kind of speakers we opted for Audio Monitors.
My wife Geri loved the sound and I loved the rosewood cabinets...

To get a neat effect with the sconces I roughed in the electrical boxes 3/4" proud from the wall and then used MDF to give me a 3/4" reveal to make a shadow. Really gives the room a theater look.

Seating for 6 and a mini recliner for our grandson.
On the back wall and the beams I made acoustic panels to absorb the sound.
Filled with quilting material and covered with cloth they really do a good job.
Ceiling is black acoustic tile that also helps with the sound.

And lastly a couple of pics from the back.
110 inch screen and enough sound to shake the room....

Thanks for taking a look and now it's back to putting some time in my shop...

Nicely done Gary. That room is larger than some movie theaters I have been in. Looks inviting.

Thanks Mac and John. The room is 15' X 18.5'
By far this project has got me the most brownie points... The room was quite straight forward. But I can't believe how many wires I had to run in the walls. Not only for the lighting and speakers but cat 5 and cat 6 cables. One touch of a button and the equipment comes on, the lights dim in a set sequence and then a movie starts..

Very, very cool! I'm also turning green.

Do you have sub woofers in the recliners? I have sampled them, they give an awesome effect.

    Thanks Bruce.
No subs in these chairs but I have roughed in wires for subs in the other corner at the front and at the back. I was thinking I should put another one just behind the front row of chairs. But in saying that this one sub has enough power to rattle the ceiling and wall sconces.

Awesome pics, Gary!! You have shared a little of this project with me as it went along, but these are much better pics - just a wonderful result!! Great layout, fantastic electronics, and very nice seating. Great job!! Geri should be proud of you!

Very nice work. But I think once your friends and family see it you will need more chairs.

    Thanks Mikail and John.
Geri loves the room John. Enough that it just about makes up for when I bought the mustard monster.....

Great room. I am interested more in the lights and the effect they give. Can you show more pics of how you got the effect.

    Thanks Gary and John.
I'm still seeing cross eyed from all the dovetails on those drawers Gary.
John, the 4 wall sconces are mounted on painted 3/4" MDF. Mussed around with a few templates before settling on this one.
The fixtures give the first effect and the 3/4" rise gives me the border or shadow.
I am quite happy with the effect when then room is dimmed.

Talking Okay, isn't there a rule against this kind of post?

I think if you make over 50% of viewers green with envy, you have to invite us over for a movie!
Awesome job! Wow! and I'm green with the rest of them as well....
