It looks like a handle on a big loom I've seen before. Can't be sure though.

I can believe that - this is not something that's been out in the weather, but it doesn't appear to have been handled much - the finish is pretty much intact on the 'handle'. There were a number of fabric mills about this area in the past. Thanks for the tip!
