    Veritas #6 Foreplane

I'm curious whether anyone has experience yet with this new plane. I like the Veritas #4 1/2 smoother and low angle block I've used. This one is similar in construction to the #4 1/2 but 18 inches long and almost 7 lb. It's billed for panels, tabletops , and edge shooting. At $195 it's only about half of a comparable LN.

    Thanks,

    Doug

Here's a fairly unbiased review of the plane

    Doug,

I'm a newbie with handplanes, so I can't give the kind of rundown you got from that article. But, I have the Veritas low angle block plane and smoother, as well as the #6. I like all three, but the #6 is really fine.

    Ed,

I'm in your position, starting to build my plane collection. I have the Veritas low angle block and the #4 1/2 smoother and really enjoy using both. The #6 looks very good as well.

    Unhappy

I'll tell you Doug, I've been second-guessing myself on that low angle smoother vs the #4-1/2. But it did do a real nice job on trimming down some tails on a box yesterday. Maybe I'll just have to get the 4-1/2 too.
