    I would be remiss not to mention that VFD's in the 5hp range are usually quite pricy, and can power only the one machine to which they are attached. For the same, or less, money, consider a rotary phase converter which will power any other 3-phase machine you may acquire, up to 5hp. I powered a 5hp Powermatic shaper and 2hp Dayton DC blower running together off the same Arco 5hp RPC.

    But if its a 3HP (OP said 3 or 4) then a Teco FM50 will work for $185 + some other parts.
