    Cherry Toy Box/Blanket Chest

I'm building a toy box/blanket chest keepsake for my little nephew. It won't be stained at all. I was thinking of just using several coats of tung oil finish like Minwax sells. Will that be durable enough? As a youngster, I can see him tossing his toys around in it, spilling his sippy cup etc. I need it to have a durable finish but I'm not fond of the plastic look of just using Poly. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance, Rob

Minwax "Tung Oil Finish" is...varnish. It doesn't even have tung oil in it. (Great marketing, eh?) It's plenty durable enough for your project and is easy to use.

Actually Minwax TOF is an oil/varnish blend. Linseed oil and varnish and alot of mineral spirits about 50%

Still fine for a toybox or blanket chest.

Finishing is an 'Art & a Science'. Actually, it is a process. You must understand the properties and tendencies of the finish you are using. You must know the proper steps and techniques, then you must execute them properly.
