I recently tried amber shellac over a flamed maple pipe box (no dye). I was initially happy with it, but after living with it for a couple months I realize it's not the color I want. For future flamed maple projects I want to go with more color.
I'm sort-of overwhelmed by the tonal choices out there for maple. Just looking at Lockwood dyes, I see 9 different tints. Obviously the result will differ based on dilution, timber characteristics, etc. But does anyone have any go-to flamed maple dye formulations they'd care to share?
