    Buckeye Hollow Form Critique and Comments Please

    I thought I'd try a little different form with this piece of buckeye. Boy was this a tough piece of wood. It was full of mud, rocks, voids, bark and was murder on my tools. I ruined a band saw blade rounding out the blank.

    I think you need to post a few more pictures to adequately show this beauty off because it looks totally awesome.

    I like that. Shows that you don't have to have a perfect solid round peice of wood to make something outstanding.

    Approximately Dimensions

    I have already taken it to the gallery to display but I think I remember the dimensions to be 11" tall and 8 1/2" in diameter. The wall thickness is just over 1/8" down to about 7" and then gradually thicker to 3/8" thick at the bottom. I left the bottom thicker because of a nasty bark inclusion that went right through the tenon. I was afraid that the whole thing would explode at the end of all that work...

    Very well done to keep it together. I have always had Burled and spalted Buckeye chip on me. This is a great looking form. It has all the features in it to keep your attention and show how difficult it is to turn such a fragile Hollow form. One Bandsaw Blade = one beautiful piece. A small sacrifice.

    Sometimes some sacfrifice must be made to accomplish the mission! That is a very nice piece! I love th shape the voids and the figure! Great job and well worth the hassle!
