Mike,
Did you use any sealer on the wood prior to applying the epoxy/charcoal?
I was wondering if this would keep it out of the pores when sanding?

No, I sanded the epoxy off with the lathe turned off. Then blow it off and sand with the lathe on.

It is the charcoal that goes in a grill, beat up into a poxder.

I like the charcoal idea. Sounds better than coffee grounds for a really dark black. The filled cracks add alot to the piece.
