May be weird for a guy to come up 12 years later, anyways I am building my own lathe and came across these links
Lathe spindle:
M33 * 3.5 / 1 "8TPI Spindle For Woodworking Lathe
https://a.aliexpress.com/_m0VmEOI
It has an 1" 8tpi and M33 options, it includes an mt2 taper, the only downside it is that this shaft is quite short, it fits a single pulley instead of a step pulley, but you can make up with a counter shaft
Spindle wheel:
M20x1.5 Reverse Thread Spindle Handwheel For Woodworking DIY Lathe
https://a.aliexpress.com/_m0qrE02
It is nickel plated iron, fits nicely in the lathe spindle:
MT2, MT3 Lathe Tailstock Body, Woodworking Lathe Rosary, Engraving Machine, Jade Wenwan, Metal Machinery
https://a.aliexpress.com/_msMx6z8
I have not bought it yet, it is quite pricey
Before I came across that link I bought an R8 to MT2 adapter, and with that you can improvise a nice tailstock. Hope to post pictures soon!

Instead of having a machine shop make you a "one-off" spindle, consider checking out the price of buying replacement parts from a place like Grizzly, Jet, Lagona, etc. The headstock spindle for my G0766 is about $85. The pictures and info for parts also show the size of the matching bearings.
The primary guts of the tailstock - - quill and lead screw are around $65.
If you buy a headstock spindle with 1.25" diameter thread, you can buy an adapter to go to one inch. Grizzly sells an adapter for $40 and one for about $15 and I found the cheaper one to have no measureable runout.
