MP4 Files

I downloaded some instructional videos and they are in MP4 files. My knowledge of video formats doesn't go much past - 1. download video. 2. click start button. 3. watch video. Apparently my computer doesn't know what to do with them. What do I do with an MP4 file? I downloaded one player that looked ok, but when I read the user agreement, it was saying things about giving information about me to other companies so I deleted that one. Is there an MP4 player (preferably free) available to download that anyone would recommend?

MP4 is a more recent format that provides higher quality, but with efficient compression. Many older players don't support it, so your download was necessary to rectify.

You can also get ffdshow codec pack. It's free, OpenSource, no spyware, ads or popups, and it acts as a universal plug-in to anything that play video and/or sound.

This isn't the first time I've run into a situation like this. It's nice to be able to come here (or occasionally another forum) and get help.

Thanks for the info. The video player that Curt mentioned is doing what I need for now, but I'll keep this in case of future problems.
