Serving tray with marquetry and inlay

My latest project is the Integrated Missile Defense Logo at my command done in marquetry with custom inlay all the way around it. The top part of it is black walnut and the bottom is African mahogany.

It was made to hold coffee and tea items. I know the thing looks odd but it is all custom...for example the cylinder holds stir sticks which was my first turning with a tenon that had to fit perfect.... it did! I used mirror coat to seal the marquetry and wiping varnish sealed with shellac. I wasn't crazy about the finish but turning has me looking at finishes in a different light so I guess I can let it slide.

    Thanks for looking!

Very Nice, Dewey! Is this going to the office or are you keeping it around the home. The inlay and marquetry look great, as we have come to expect.

    Looks great!

I stopped by the General's office yesterday to get a peak at the Senior Chief Serving Tray. (The General wasn't in.) It looks even better in real life! The inlay on the side is especially nice.

Good thing it's in a very secure area or someone would steal it. Then again, I keep telling Dewey the General will want to take it home.

Amazing job Dewey. I have some inlay like you have in all different widths that my Aunt brought back from Kuwait (because she's a pro photographer over there) and I'm yet to use it but it sure looks good. Now one of these days I'm going to really have to use it. Good Job man!

Great looking tray, Dewey. You've got quite a talent.
It’s only work if somebody makes you do it.

    That is very nice.
Yeah, I would not be surprised if the brass "requisitioned" that one.
