Bonnie, how do you get the slate round and where do you buy your slate? I've seen some say to use old chalkboard slate, roof slate etc. But I've no idea how to make a nice round disc from it.

    Thanks everyone.

I buy my slate from a slate company in Pennsylvania. And right now the name totally slips my mind. Bet Jack Mincey can name it. But, anyway, they'll cut it how you want it. I buy 3" circles.

Reed, I'll be in a small town called Clatskanie. About halfway between Portland and Astoria.

    Bonnie,
That is around 150 plus miles from me. Better bring your rain gear and rubber boots. If you can, check out Gilmer woods in NW Portland, but probably better not bring your check book or charge cards. Beautiful stuff in there.

    lol I was a 'duck' for 18 years. I found out I didn't melt

This will be mainly for family visiting. After all that's gone on in the past few months I needed to see my daughter and new grandson. So it'll be a surprise visit to see them. Boy! Talk about coordinating things and not giving the secret away! I just have to watch what I say on the phone with her until Tuesday Couldn't even let my sister know I'm coming. The whole town would know within a half hour!

    Bonnie,
Sounds like a great trip ahead of you, congrats on the new grandson!
Your calls look great, I have a number of family members that turkey hunt...might have to try my hand at a few of these.

    Beautiful calls and strikers, Bonnie!

Jake, you can buy precut slate and other supplies here. http://brooksidegamecalls.com/

IMHO, while I like making one piece calls like Bonnie's, nothing work a friction call as well as a hickory striker dowel with your choice wood for the handle.
