Chris,
I will post pictures but they'll have to wait until it's had a chance to acclimate to the low humidity here.
I haven't even seen it. It's currently out of the box and wrapped in several layers of bubble wrap.
Tomorrow I'll take one layer off and let it go until Sunday or Monday and then I'll take another layer off.

Well,
I removed the last layer of bubble wrap.
WOW!
I am almost wishing I hadn't volunteered because I am concerned about my capabilities to turn knobs that will do this box justice.
Everything about it is impressive.
Though I have some walnut and maple but..I'm a little leary using the walnut I have now that I've seen the box.
A trip to Moscow, Idaho tomorrow is appropriate to purchase some kiln dried walnut for this.
There are a couple issues with the box we will have to address.
The mitered joints on the trim at one corner.....the wood shrank and gap opened.
Photos to follow.

Ken,
Lets see a picture, no picture it did not happen!

People are made of meat.
Heather,
I just started working on design of the knobs.....yes....design of a knob...please don't laugh.
I looked like a little kid at the elementary school where Mrs. Fitzgerald works but I was allowed to use scissors that had points on them. I was drawing circles with a compass and cutting them out.
I need to go do some quick shopping for some hardware before the store closes and get my flu shot.
Pictures to follow later this evening.

Great idea guys, can't wait to see pictures of the final project. Course some images along the way would be nice as well. I am an advanced amateur and sometime professional photographer and would be happy to take some quality images of the finished product.
Best Regards,
Gordon
Pics would be nice. I haven't seen anything since the WoodWhisperer cut the lid off. (That's still on his web site if you want to see it).
Jim,
There are lots of pics on this thread. I know I documented the drawer, the hidden box, and the ogee bracket feet quite thouroughly.

Mike,
I will post some pictures this evening.
Last night some unexpected family matters came up and I had to deal with them.
I just finished turning the first sample knob and have started on the 2nd one.
I will post photos and ask for input before I settle on a final design.
Sorry!

I wish I would have got into this project. Can't wait for the pics.
What you listen to is your business....what you hear is ours.
Bill,
After playing with several knobs today trying to come up with a design I like and would be fitting to this project, I wish you were in my shoes right now!
I am hesitant to even begin to comment about the craftsmanship on this for fear of unintentionally leaving someone out. I am truly in awe with some of the workon this box. Steve's laser work....Belton's handle....Mike feet and trim and drawers.....Keith engraved rose.......Ed's hinges.....Jim's dovetails and box......the cutaway....
We do have some damage to repair. I believe it's due to the dramatic humidity differences the box has experienced along it's travels. One front corner, the mitered corner trim has dried and retracted a bit.....
We need to find someone willing and with the necessary skills to install Ed's wooden hinges. I could probably stumble through it but I wouldn't be comfortable doing it. But I could probably do it. Because the hinges are installed, neither is the top installed.
I'm still trying to come up with a turned knob design to do justice to this thing.....I've tried maple knob with walnut insert....walnut know with maple inset......walnut knob with applied maple ....... So far nothing really strikes my fancy..... My next idea is to glue up some blackwood and maple and see if I can mimics Belton's handle or get something that would compliment it.....

Photo 3 - This is the corner we need to find a repair for. The joint appears to have retracted as if the wood dried.

I am in awe and humbled to be trying to add to this.....
It's late and I didn't post a photo of Steve's laser work. Please forgive me Steve.
I will get it on the next session after I figure out what to do for knobs.

Ken,
The base is just screwed on (if I recall correctly), so you could take it off and see if a repair comes to mind once you see the problem clearly.
Dont be too much in awe, they are just sticks of wood!
