    First spoon of 2009

First one for 2009. I carved this from green Buckthorn from a blank by Frank Foltz.

Finished in flaxseed oil. I find the Buckthorn grain to make for a very interesting spoon. It has deep iridescent lines and "wrinkles", but is still relatively easy to carve. Frank Foltz is in Minnesota, apparently where Buckthorn is an invasive weed on the list for eradication.

    What? No gloat?

That's a beauty. Really a nice shape. Looks like it would stir the chilli well. Love the color too.

    Great job

Ditto what Dewey said. If only I could grow weeds like that.
