    Auction Report

I spent an early morning heading to Ohio for a pattern shop auction. Looked to have some great stuff, and I was going to meet my Dad over there, so it would make a nice visit. The hiccup was I also needed to take our children (4-1/2 and 1-1/2) so makes for a fun day. Upon driving up I was not happy, tons of trucks as the parking lot stretched for what seemed like miles. I had the old mini van and trailer, so I was ready. The auction turned out to be a retail auction, so mostly a bust but we did have a nice lunch with my Dad so not all was lost. Here is a run down:

Emmert Pattern Makers Vise w/bench $250 – Might have been the buy of the day
Yost Pattern Makers Vice w/bench $150 – I dropped out to let another guy have it thinking I would get the next one
Columbian Pattern Makers Vice w/bench $190 – I dropped out because the other guy was set to bid all day
DeWalt 10” RAS $250 – Nice saw and good buy.
    Altas 12”x36” metal/wood lathe - $825
    Oliver 24”x36” metal/wood lathe - $900
Wadkin 36” Band Saw - $2100 – Moses, sorry I didn’t wait for the other one
    Wadkin 36” Dual Disk Sander - $800
Master OSS - $1200, nice very heavy tool with lots of extras
Delta Heavy Duty 12” Disk Sander - $450 single phase, not bad but to rich for me
    Craftsman Drill Press - $200
Oliver 16” Band Saw - $575 Look decent, but motor might have been a direct drive and was 3 phase
Delta 12” Nice Heavy Duty Floor Planer - $800, I though to high for a 3 phase machine
American 16” Jointer - $550 – Nice might have been the other buy of the auction
Delta 18” Wedgebed Planer with grinder - $1700 Good shape, but I though it went to high
Porter 20” Jointer, $1000, A good buy as well, but it sat on $200 for what seemed like forever.
Delta Unisaw - $700, a rough 3 phase machine, it did have a Biesemeyer 78” fence, but to much for a machine this rough.
Delta 20” Band saw - $550, another good buy, but hard for me to physically move.

The last item I wanted was a granite surface plate (12” x 18”) they had 2 and had the last minute lumped them together, so I dropper out at $65 and they sold for $75. At least I made the seller some money yesterday.

    John,
I'm glad you had the time with your dad, otherwise it would have really been a bummer of a trip. Definately not an auction for a bottom feeder like me! I never have had the patience for auctions, those that do come away with some real deals - if, like you, they are willing to walk when the bidding goes nuts.

    Better luck next time. Wes
