True story. I attended a one day demo with Mike Mahoney yesterday. The subject of CBN wheels came up.He said he uses a 36 grit stone wheel on one side and 46 on the other. He gave a good explanation...
Hi Carson, I also live in the LA area and am relatively new to woodturning (less than 6 months). Last fall I joined the OCWoodworkers assn which has a separate Woodturning meeting once a month. I was...
Ha...when I read that, it reminded me of when I was a kid living in TX I too was fascinated with switchblades but knew they were illegal. We went to Mexico once and I "smuggled" one back across the...
John, in response to the quote in Red, I have spent a lot of time on this site since I joined in March of last year and kept seeing the advise to "buy your second lathe first" and thought that was...
Hi all, I would like to introduce you to my new (to me) baby. 😁 This is my first lathe and I am excited to fall into the vortex. I have been watching CL for well over a year but nothing ever came up...
Picked up the above square at a garage sale today for a $1. Normal surface rust. Looking for recommendations to clean it up. Thanks
Please explain why? My research has indicated there is not a problem. The allergic reaction you mention is from the dust associated with the cutting, i.e. sawing, of the wood.
I built a 10 x 20 deck this past summer from Ipe and have a bunch of scrap pieces that I was thinking of doing something similar. There does not appear to be any food safety issues from my research....
In general, I would agree with the Amazon card as well with the one caveat that they are a Prime Member, otherwise shipping could eat up some of the value of the card.
The one I had expired yesterday. But they do have a military 10% discount if you are a vet. That expires on the 15th.
I was able to get a sub-panel installed in my garage/shop so I will no longer blow the breakers in the house. :) This is something I have wanted to do for some time. I used to have a Jacuzzi in the...
+1
I had an old 1/4 sheet sander that was no longer in use. The scotch bright pad fit (almost) perfectly. It was not quite as wide as the sander but there was no effect on the "sanding" and was...
Thanks Paul for your input on your experience with the 838. I am still on the fence on which way to go, but I hope to fall off one side or the other in the near future.
Keith and Scott, very nice work and great examples of what is possible (not only in my mind but in reality).
Joe, yes, that is high on my list of things to do and I appreciate the...
My wife asked me to ask a question. What is the largest realistic size of a vase I could do on the 838 with the extension vs the 766? Thanks,
I want to thank everyone that has weighed in with their thoughts and opinions. They are truly appreciated as I don't know what I don't know. There are great points going both ways and gives me plenty...
Thanks for your reply Scott. Part of my debate is also the footprint. My shop is a two car garage, without the cars, so I have somewhat limited space. There is a bed/tool rest extension for the 838....
I am looking seriously at falling into the wood turning vortex in the near future. I want to buy my 2nd lathe 1st. I have been watching CL for several months and the majority in my area for sale are...
Thanks Glenn, I foresee a little road trip in my future. 👍
Very nice Glenn. Excellent workmanship. I see you are in SoCal, do you mind sharing where you got the Leopardwood?
Thanks Stan the three Bills 😀...... I think I will keep looking....I am not in a rush.
Bill S, as far as the SS is concerned, I currently plan on selling it. Partially for the space and partially...
I am in the process of moving from a ShopSmith to stand alone machines. I have the TS and BS and am now looking at drill presses. I would like your thoughts on the following machine on CL in my area....
