I'm looking at buying one of the swag offroad press finger brake kits. Reviews look good.
If I bought it I'd want to have the option to switch out the punches. If you have one what do you think of...
Dremel would work. I cut my first few plates using a grinder and a cutoff wheel. Take your time, keep it cool.
I have a large wooden vise at elbow height. I love my Wentworth and raised it a little higher. Even with my magnified swivel lamp, I like to get close to tiny teeth without too much bending over.
Veritas was my first one. Not as pretty as a brass back but I was very happy with it anyway. Now that I have used a brass back one, I prefer the added weight. Just feels better personally.
Scott that is how I clamped my first saw. After a few saws I wanted a raised vise. Haven't added screws yet but I like it. Holds a full length saw, perfect height. Clamps in a couple places lol.
Hello again everyone.
I've been busy sharpening old saws and making a few as well. I started with a small pile of rusty saws and I'm feeling better everyday with my sharpening.
I've been...
I personally haven't done 0 set the first inch or so but relaxing the rake for the first few teeth does help to get it started.
Did 4 more.
Trying to set up little stops and markers so I can get them perfect. Trying to press until it feels right doesn't work. One of these is pretty flat... I think I have down. I still have...
I'll keep ya in mind when I get some little things worked out on my brake. I wanna set a depth guide and get cleaner results. When I build up a little stash I think I'll be willing to sell a few here...
That did cross my mind. A handful a month could sure help pay for my new hobby.
Haven't posted in a while. Been a little busy. With help from a friend and a good bit of trial and error, we welded up new toys for my hydraulic press. I can now make folded backs! Not the fastest in...
I use hand tools more often than powered ones but I would like to make a single use dust collector that I can just move from machine to machine. Router, benchtop sander, and a 10 inch bandsaw.
I...
I'm sharpening more and more and I feel like I'm getting a lot better. Currently using a sharpie on teeth and wearing a small led light band on my head. My wife thinks its funny...
Can anyone...
Aside from bemaco. How do you guys like other hammer setters? Foley 281 for example?
I would still like to get the bemaco up and going, but I'll need to find or make a couple pieces and play with...
Handful here and there.
I was looking at this too. I'm curious if getting a larger one is worth it. I don't mind tin snips either if someone can recommend a good set they have used. I don't want to buy too cheap and buy...
I'll search for it thank you. I was just looking up reviews of shears. Like this one.

Can you guys give me some advice on cutting spring steel for saws.
Currently I'm using a cut off wheel. Thick angle iron as a guide/heat sink. Going lightly to keep it from getting too hot. After...
Thanks John, pm sent
They are still available. The picture makes it look like NOS so who knows how many they have. 4.99 a piece so I got some ordered. My parts machine is slightly different. Instead of clips there are...
Got it back together. Cleaned out the gunk and used light oil. Sharpened the punch, had some trial and error but it is good now. Had a chip in it. The gib buttons stayed together too so I worried for...
I got my retoother apart. I should get it back together tonight. I took apart my spare first just to see what I was getting into and a gib button broke to pieces. Like a biscuit. I was pretty...
Its hard to see in the picture but my punch is pointed slightly to the left. Like 11:00 on a clock instead of 12:00. Is this on purpose?
Thanks John I'll keep my fingers crossed.
