Having had the veritas and now owning the lie nielsen, I would say that the veritas provides versatility while the LN is a one trick pony. The LN does the job just fine as long as you can work with...

Thought I'd tag along and be nosy about what are your most used molding planes and why?
My personal experience (limited) has been that molding planes are that 3rd tier wood working tool that we...

I keep my workshop at 40% humidity and do not use any oils - planes stay in plane sacks if they will not be used for a while and they sit on anti- rust paper i bought through lie nielsen when out in...
I have used the Tage Frid video - but really, you watch a lot of them, then pick which style or hybrid of styles works best for you. I lay out tails first and chop - same way as frid but doing the...
yep - I have a bronze no4 with gabon ebony and it is absolutely spanky.
was just thinking - how big is the piece? why not just use a card scraper? cheap and it should work.
not that this response helps you in any way but this is a perfect scenario where the LV BUS excels. Take a 25 degree additional blade and add the necessary micro bevel and you now have a the high...
Sorry Dave I'm confused - so WTB posts are not allowed in the Classifieds or just not in the discussions portions of this forum or both?
sliding bevel at those sizes are tough - I have only seen one or 2 and they were vintage on walts site - I think Lee Valley has some but they may be in the 4 inch size but you want the all metal - I...
bench planes - metal
moulding planes - wood
scrub - wooden
specialty planes - metal

I have both - a stanley T15 no 5 and a recent LN no 5. I agree that the no 5 does not neccessarily warrant the need for Lie Nielsen, but I do sure enjoy using it.
