A tree service company is clearing out a patch of woods along the side of an elementary school property near where I live. There are some ~60’ tall maples (and maybe other hardwoods) in the area...
1---This is gluing piece sides to each other. No end grain gluing involved.
2---Jerry Miner... Yes. Your diagram is exactly what I’ll be trying to produce.
3---Thanks to everybody for your...
I have a bunch of 3/4” x 1” x 4” pieces of wood that I need to laminate into a board. I have to glue the 3/4” sides together so that I produce a 4” wide, 3/4” thick, 15” long board with the grain...
I’m using a 5” drawknife and to debark Red Oak, Apple, Cherry and Maple branches that I cut in mid-winter and have had drying indoors since then. The blade is tempered blue carbon steel, but the...
These are for making raw forked carving blanks that can be sculpted into carved slingshot frames. I’m cutting forks that are considerably larger than I need so I can start with well-oversized...
A project necessitates my drying forked branches. I won’t be turning them, but it was suggested I ask my question here because the turners are the group with the knowledge about drying green wood.

Thanks for the heads-up about what bark does to rasps. I’m only dealing with ~18” long, 4”-5” wide branches, but the bark is like rock and I could see my cheap rasps dying in no time flat. Jim...
That’s for sure! The bark on these pieces is really hard, quite resistant to removal and the process of carving it off with knives is discouragingly difficult.
I’m doing a project that involves taking all the bark off of some air-dried red oak, black cherry and apple tree branches. The branches are around 4” to 5” in diameter, were cut in mid-winter, the...
I’m doing a project that involves using tree branch forks. I’m cutting the pieces I need in the middle of winter, so they’re (at least comparatively) dry, but I need to get them good and dry to avoid...
I need to put a finish on some canarywood and some Bolivian rosewood. Both of them have dramatic light vs. dark color contrast in the grain of the wood. The canarywood is actually multi-color, with...
Great to hear that my intuitive game plan was on the right track! Thanks for your inputs.
To take it a step further -- The pieces I’ll be gluing together will be shaped in a Y or X configuration...
An upcoming project necessitated my gluing a piece of 1/4” aluminum (6061 if that matters) to a piece of Bolivian Rosewood. Full plane-to-plane contact and gluing.
My plan is to completely clean...
Years ago, Sears sold a biscuit joiner accessory kit that mounted onto a 4 1/2" angle grinder. The grinder and the accessory kit were both inexpensive. I had that rig and it worked like a charm, ...
