Thanks guys....so far so good. I put some anchorseal on them so we'll see if that helps. I'm hoping the cool environment will also lend a hand

Beautifully done Kevin. I love with the wine and bread composition
Yup....I agree. Apple especially loves to crack. I'm going to keep these two cool and stable and protect the sapwood since it seems to dry faster
I was very excited that a friend cut down their old apple tree and was kind enough to give me the main logs. Beautiful wood, so I decided to take the day off and cut a chunk off and see what it...
My excuse is that I have been turning a lot but didn't want to bore anyone with my roughouts :)
A friend just gave me two large logs from an apple tree he had to take down. They are wonderfully...
Here's my steady rest. Originally designed and constructed for my craftsman lathe which has a 7.5" swing. But I retrofitted it with a riser to fit the grizzly which has an 11" swing.
This steady...
Zowie!!! Nice work Dave! All beautiful pieces
Thanks for all the nice words...super fun project. I feel the vortex tugging on me again :)
My sister asked if I could make her a sugar bowl so I found an old piece of walnut that has been sitting around in the shop for years and gave it a go.

Hi Kyle
Well I'd say the consistency is like butter that's been out of the fridge for 30 minutes. Pretty firm. You have to swirl your rag a bit to get a decent amount to rub in. I don't know the...
Thanks everyone :)
I shared the picture with my family....already sold. Sheesh....I don't get to enjoy them. Oh well...plenty of firewood out there
Hey Pete
Beeswax.....70grams....20.6%
Oil................270 grams....79.4%
Just put it all in a double boiler and mix it up
Cool project and a great cause. Nicely done Bobby
Here's a couple pieces of oak firewood that were saved from the woodstove. Finished with BLO and our beeswax oil stuff.

Really cool project Bruce. I lack the discipline for such things. Can't wait to see how it turns out
Well I wouldn't exactly call that a small piece but you sound like me having pieces of wood hanging out for 20 years. Nicely done
We made a batch of wood conditioner yesterday. Beeswax and mineral oil. Turned out great. I finished a couple of cutting boards with it. Perfect. I won't be buying commercial brands from here...
Nicely done Pete! Very nice form and execution. And the colors are awesome. What's the final size?
I've been using this stuff with good results. It appears they use carnuba and bees wax along with their orange oil. Maybe this can offer a hint to success

Here's my first bowl. As I recall, I was very proud. And people on the Creek congratulated me. I keep it in a prominent place as a reminder of good and bad.

I used to turn pieces, then be disappointed, then turn again, until I realized that I just couldn't see the form right when it was horizontal on the lathe. So I started taking pictures and turning...
And that is a valid point. You can come up with a beautiful form but have scars that you regret. You can have a perfect finish on a piece that is not pleasing to the eye. Perfection is rarely...
Thanks Ken!...it keeps getting better with every coat. Think I'll do two more and post it again
Oh sure...I think this is normal. And I also think it's a positive thing. When you are disappointed, it drives you to excel. Just human nature. I have pieces that I absolutely abhor but I keep...
Thanks Roger!
