Dave, Great information here. Thanks!
It's a two man operation at the moment, but looking to grow. Thank you for your suggestions. I think I'll try to keep my eye out more on the used market. I have been checking around pretty frequently...
Hmmm... not sure where you got that from. I am more than willing to buy a new SCM or Felder machine which i consider pretty high end machines. My question is in regards to the quality and personal...
If you don't mind me asking, do you use them in a professional setting? Every day use? I don't mean to sound rude if it comes off that way. I just want to be sure that the asian design and castings...
Anyone here own any of these saws or have any gripes/good things to say about them? I have an old 36Β” crescent which is a well built machine but has a multitude of issues that arenΒ’t worth it to me...
Thanks guys,
This helped. Especially the McMaster link. Just what I needed.
I'm hoping I can just drill through it with a regular old drill bit. I guess I'll find out.
Thanks much!
Does anyone know what I would google to find this piece of friction material for my shaper spindle brake? This is an 80s SICMA FN900 (not scmi) machine. I already reached out to SCMI in GA and they...
I do a lot of radius work and cut my templates and jigs out of particle board for cost saving reasons.
Question is, will particle board do more damage to carbon steel band saw blades than typical...
I bought a Vega around a year ago. I was extremely disappointed in the build quality. The machining looks like it was done by a 12 year old in their garage. The slots on the aluminum mounting...
That small cutting circle is exactly why I would be interested to see which increasing the head RPM would do. I wonder why they held that head rpm so low when it was designed. I would personally spin...
Rod,
This is true... I guess when you break it down, its not that impressive. However, an extra 60 lineal feet per hour could make you good money on a molding that your'e charging 4,5,6+ dollars a...
Production is a term used loosely I guess, a couple hundred lineal feet, not talking thousands. I got it mostly for doing curved stuff. Of course I would love to have a production arch moulder but...
Hey guys,
A quick hypothetical/something I've given a bit of thought to. I just recently got one of those little shopfox planer/moulders. I appreciate the machine for what it is, but would love to...
I think I could probably modify the dust shroud to work in reverse... Do you have any idea if I could access the other two wires by opening the motor up? Maybe its not worth the trouble.
Jack
I know this is a woodworking question, but I figured I'd start here. I bought a motor to replace the one on a cheap taiwan edge sander I bought at auction with a blown motor. Brought the new motor to...
I pulled my measurement from the near side vs the far side.
Here was the set up. Wound up being very simple. Poplar fence extensions with a stop block at the desired distance. I cut into the poplar so that I could see exactly where the knives would enter and...
I got it done. Thanks for all the help. The challenge was the length of the pieces. I'll upload some pics later
Jack
For those with a variable speed feed, they can drop cut into a work piece, start the feed and then slow it down until it stops wherever you want it to.
I may look into the shop fox version.
Brent,
These are good suggestions. The stop would definitely be helpful, but these columns are a little over 6 feet long. I am thinking that I will need to build an extension like you mentioned. I...
I have used my table saw to do some beading work. It worked but the quality of cut wasn't there due to the comparatively low rotation speed. I'll be running my shaper at 10k rpm, I believe my table...
Hey guys,
I am working on a project that requires three mahogany stop-fluted half columns. The columns are 6 3/4 wide and I already got a knife ground that will do two flutes at a time (There are 4...
Kevin,
Thanks for the input, I ordered the book. I definitely need to do my research which is why I started here. I have done far more windows than doors, so I am just thoroughly planning it out...
Dave,
The customer specified no center stile, but I am beginning to think I should strongly recommend it. I'm just guessing that this door is going to weigh over 350 pounds due to the size,...
That makes sense. I was wondering if the variation of movement of the laminated materials would cause checking on the surface. Just curious, why would a thinner veneer (say 1/8") be less prone to...
