Thanks for the info. I ordered a 1/2" spindle gouge from Carter & Son Toolworks.
What's the reason for the two channels on the bottom of Nova jaws? They aren't necessary for the jaw to register on the chuck. You could just have the one raised rib. See picture:

Anyone know what kind of wood the Diefenback workbenches are made from?
Thanks. I do have a radius skew, but I haven't used it much. Might be time to learn.
I've been using the carbide lathe tools to make peppermills, but I'd like to start using a spindle gouge. My peppermills don't have any fine details, just sweeping curves. I sometimes use exotic...
Thanks, I'll check that thread out.
I was listening to the Woodshop Life podcast recently and one of the hosts (Guy Dunlap) said he uses Dark Walnut TransTint dye on walnut to help keep it's original color as it will fade over time. ...
I see 3M has two versions of their "Pro Grade Precision Sanding Sheets No-Slip Grip Backing". One says it uses Cubitron II, the other doesn't say. Here's a couple of links to each:

Wow, that's a lot of chucks! Thanks for the explanation.
I was looking at the jaws on my SuperNOVA chuck and I noticed all 4 looked identical. The Jaws are numbered and I've always matched the number to the jaw slide number. I understand why the slides...
Good idea. I'll do that.
Attached are some sketches on my current thinking on the design. On both the top and bottom I have the wider spaced tenons on the wood that has the slot. I'm hoping this will allow some wood...
I'm using Sapele, I do not want to use plywood. It is quarter-sawn, so wood movement will be less than if it was flat-sawn. I'll use mortise and tenon for the top, but the tenons are only a few...
Thanks. I do plan on putting some curves on the underside of those boards. I'll probably put leveling feet too.
I'm building a 2-person (28" diameter) patio table from Sapele. My concern is attaching the pedestal body to the base. I'm thinking of doing double tenons, but I'm worried I'll have a wood movement...
Thanks for the info Holmes. West must have discontinued their UV epoxy. I have a can I purchased a long time ago. I hadn't thought about painting the end grain. Since you can't really see the...
Thanks Stan. I'm doing end grain only. I'll keep any epoxy off the face grain. So, I should be okay.
Thanks. I do have some UV resistant West epoxy, might as well use that.
I'm replacing the seat planks of an outdoor bench with white oak. The planks will be bolted to a metal frame on each end, there's no joinery. I'd like to seal the end grain to slow down water...
I need to replace the 6x48" belt on my belt sander. I normally just your standard aluminum oxide belt. Are there any belts on the market that are significantly better?

Good to know, thanks
Never heard of that. I’ll have to look into it.
I want to make a 27" diameter outdoor table. I'm in NJ and it will mostly be in shade. I'm gonna have a vinyl cover made to protect the table from the elements. I'm planning on making the table out...
The miter slot I'm having a problem with is the left one (I haven't checked the right side since I rarely use it). I put a long machinist's straight edge on the slot and found the right side of the...
