In 2019, I took a veneering class at Marc Adams School of Woodworking taught by Thomas Schrunk, the inventor of the Stop Loss Bags. He spent a session explaing the development and testing of the Stop...
Another vote for Marc Adams. In 2011, my son and I trook the Introduction to Woodworking class taught by Marc. Great experience, introduction to power tool safety and use as well as joinery with hand...
Chuck,
Until this thread appeared, I had not noticed that the label mentioned shellac. I bought Speedball online because it was so much less costly than the India ink at the statinery store, and...
Ash rails for baby gates - sanded to 180, no effort to raise grain - wiped on 3 coats of Speedball (shellac listed on label) making an attempt to work ink into grain. No problems with each coat...
"The Art of Concealment" by Matthew Dworman. Popular Woodworking, November, 2016.
Mike,
I have had the best results in preserving the etch by using a sanding block with the Scotch Brite pad.

Perhaps my Wixey is the exception, but it is not consistently accurate enough to set a perfect 45 degree tilt for cutting 2 inch thick stock. My best results have been with the use of a combo square...
Assaf, I am far less experienced than the others who have responded, so take that into consideration. Took a sharpening class from Mark and was impressed with his knowledge. I bought a 14 inch BA...
Thank you Dan, Andrew, and George. Very helpful replies.
If I were to pull the boards flat will stout aprons, is it likey that the mechanical fasteners would pull out of the top over time?
My resawing experience is limited to 8 or 10 projects. All of it is with domestic species of kiln dried wood - maple, walnut, cherry, poplar. Each piece has bowed considerably as it came off the...
Hard maple top, padauk for the legs, short stretchers, and end cap. Padauk is stiff and hard. Keep in mind that different woods move differently with changes in humidity.
Doug Stowe, in one of his books or lectures, shows pics of pivot lid boxes. I helped my 6 1/2 year old grandson build one for his dad and one for his mother.
The boards were planed to thickness,...
Dennis, I own the Veritas Dowel and Tenon Cutter in 3/8 and 1/2 inch versions. The Dowel Maker in Stephen's post looks like an upscale version of what I own. I bought mine to make dowels out of...
Barkeeper's Friend.
Epoxy - it fills the gaps, but not as easy to repair in the future.
We installed them in a class taught by Doug Stowe at MASW. With his jig, they work great. Once the jig is assembled, it just takes seconds to install hinges. I did not think I would like them, but...
A continuous hinge along with a Sugatsune soft close support worked well on a window seat / toy box. As noted by Ron, use the calculator.
The cam lever can be held in place with an adjustable wrench while the set screw is tightened. Still takes some fiddling, but less frustrating than trying to hold the cam lever by hand.
Another fan of MASW. All of the above accolades are consistent with my experience.
In 2010, my son and I flew to the Pacific Northwest for a week long beginner's class. We chose that school...
The original poster asked for opinions from experienced and skilled sawyers. Well, I don't fit either category, but I do own some saws. When I took up woodworking in 2007, I purchased 2 PAX handsaws....
I agree with Eric's response to your previous post. Call Mark at Bad Axe and discuss with him - he has helped me with similar questions. His sharpening class is also worthwhile.

Hearing protection made by Clark is very comfortable and not very expensive. They are marketed primarily for airport workers, as I recall NR is 26 db. I bought a pair 35 years ago, replaced the...
