Hi Joe,

Go to 5:30, watch until about 7:30. Then do this with your plane. It's pretty much what I do with my woodies and any plane I have with no lateral.

If you want to use it on tenon cheeks you definitely want the large. That said I prefer my lv medium for just about everything else, so I'd get that size if you have other means/preferences for...
Nice work Tony. Lovely plane!
Yeah. I felt that way with the jack especially. It just chews through wood, and makes rough flattening actually enjoyable.
Even though I doubt I'll ever give up my iron planes, I liked these so...
I didn't make these. They were made by an anonymous hobbyist who used to post here a lot. He enjoys making planes but already has enough for himself so I have been fortunate to be on the receiving...
I agree, 3 to 5 thou sounds out of spec. I think LN and LV both advertise 1.5 thou. Have them send you a replacement.
That is very well done Cody! Excellent work on the handle!
Yeah that 25 degree shot definitely is not how A2 should look at 25 degrees in a low angle plane. As Barney says, grind back down to that at some point. If that's happening after a stroke or two...
I don't know a lot about metallurgy. I guess if it were me I would try it at 30 degrees and maybe grind back another 16th. Or at a minimum grind to a fresh big burr just to make sure there weren't...
Is it a new blade? They tend to be more chippy at the edge. If that the case you can either wait or just grind the edge back a little to get to the 'good' steel. My LV LA jack is also A2 and it...
Awesome Steve. Beautiful workmanship and a sweet tool. You just can't beat a good wooden try plane when it comes to getting some serious flattening done!
Hey Derek,
How's that compendium of block planes write-up coming along? ;)
Beautiful work on the saw (and the miterbox as well) Derek. Getting all those details right and keeping all those lines so crisp on the tote is no easy task
The wood is beech
Hmmmmm. That looks very similar to my try plane from Undisclosed Source. I frickin love mine.
Yeah. I can't get in either. No biggy. Hopefully, they'll sort it out soon enough.
Yeah that was me, not David (or maybe both of us). And yes, there is no doubt the 1k is a great stone also.
I prefer the 800 to the 1k. Its faster cutting and tends to have less of tendency to load, yet it is still fine enough to jump to any stone that I would go to from the 1k. Just my personal...
Ebay can go nuts sometimes. I'd recommend becoming a contributer here (for $6). Then you'll be able to post a Want To Buy add in the classifieds. I'm sure there are more then a few spare smoothers...
$10 for a No.15! Wow that's great! MF 15s are great planes and while they're not rare, they don't pop up all that often either. I got an MF 15 from ebay a couple years ago for about $50 and that was...
I shall vanish as quickly as I reappeared...
My hope was that I would at least have some time to get a little better at turning this year, but studying mathematics after having not taken a...
I've gotten to know David reasonably well over the past few years, and feel fortunate to call him a friend. I like to make fun of him sometimes for being "cranky", but in reality I can only echo...
Bummer dude!
I recall a few years ago pulling my LA jack out the box for the only the 2nd time. I still had it in the blue plastic. When I picked it up it slid out of the blue plastic and landed...
I'm finally coming around with you on this George. As much as I like water stones in use, I have so very little time in the shop and so little extra space to keep the wet stones away from thing I...
