Wow, Mike! I was envious of Keller when he told me what you guys had planned. Now I'm full blown jealous! Thanks for the pictorial and essay. It looks like you all had a great time.

From one former sailor to another. Thank you, Wally.
Awesome job, Bill!
HAHA! Can you imagine the fussin' and carryin' on? No matter how many nice things you did for him after that; he'd never let you forget it.
So this is the culprit, Keller?
David Starks,
The bowl looks great and I like the blue streaks. They just add to it. The walls could be thinner but that's just a taste thing. The way Keller...
I agree that a brass plate would be the way to go; especially on a trophy of this size.
I think it looks pretty good but would add mass to the base as well. I do quite a bit of laser engraving. Some woods do not mark as well as others. I would suggest using red alder. It engraves...
I foresee many beautiful platters, bowls & hollow forms in your future....:D
I can't wait any longer. Hurry up and turn it already!!!!!:D
Nate,
I wish you well on your move. If you don't already, you should learn to fly fish. NM has some awesome fly fishing opportunities!
Josh,
I'm glad you got it resolved. Did you ever figure out specifically what the problem was in the motor?
Very nice. Did you put a video up on your website?
The coloring looks kinda like lacebark elm but it's too smooth, I think. Crepe Myrtle would probably be a safer bet.
Kathy,
I specifically logged on today to see if you had posted final pics. The form is awesome and the color and grain are eye popping. I can't tell you how much I love this piece!
Wow, Scott. I didn't realize you'd been down that long. Taping & bedding sucks canal water. I rate it a notch above hauling hay and 2 notches above building fence. Of course, there aren't many...
Love the curve and especially the detail at the opening. You can't hardly go wrong with mesquite either...
Jim,
I like them all but the bloodwood, aluminium and white ash burl is the one that grabbed my attention. Beautiful work.
Earl, I'm sorry for your recent loss.
I'll be 46 in a few days. Too rough of a youth has left me with broken down hips, knees, ankles and various pieces of metal holding my back together. My attitude and sense of humor are locked firmly...
Very nice Kathy! I love the figure and color as well.
That's a beautiful piece of wood and I love what you did with it! I can't wait to see it sitting proud on a pedestal.
You're sure welcome, Roger. I hope that you can lop a few usable chunks of enough size that it's worth your while. There's gonna be some pink hues in these.
Congrats, Nate! Hope you get some lathe time. You've earned it.
That's a beautiful piece, Tim. I think I'll have to go with the non-finial crowd.
Does the red fade due to time or will UV exposure hasten the change?
Very nice JD! I think it would make a beautiful decorative bowl for the holidays. I love the wood.
