When I worked at Woodworker's Journal in 1996, I was invited to travel to Delta Machinery Corporate Headquarters in Pittsburgh. Even then they knew they were going to be in trouble selling Unisaws...

What's wrong with a block of wood and a piece of sandpaper? 3D printed parts? Why make it difficult?

Walnut would be too soft of wood if there are kids in the home. Homework with a ball point pen will leave the words and numbers in the wood. If they don't mind pads and a table cloth, then it's okay....

If you want skins, I used Indiana Architectural Plywood with wonderful results on a conference table top. They have ready access to all kinds of veneer. I'd certainly ask for a veneer sample or...

Baltic birch around me is as rough as a corn cob. No way to finish it without sanding between coats. Shellac or water based lacquer is what I use. Finished a desk drawer with Poly about 30 years ago....

Are you asking about raw veneer, or plywood? Why are you specifying the veneer? What did the architect originally specify?

My opinion is that no one needs a 1" resaw blade, unless they do higher speed resawing every day. A 3/4" is more than stiff enough and does a wonderful job. It can be tensioned much easier than the...

It's been my experience that brush sanders remove the soft grain more aggressively than the hard grain. I would be afraid of texturing the basswood instead of smoothing it.

You should never glue hardwood to plywood. One seasonally moves, the other doesn't. You can use wood screws through slots, but a lot of work.

Just did a real quick search. One listing on ebay was for $55. Certainly not mint, but it indicates that $100 might be a bit high priced. Also a pretty old saw, probably no parts available.

Glad it's not bad, but also sounds like you are over powering that saw. You should have a very light hand with a Japanese saw. Let the teeth do the work, not you.

You drilled holes in it when you bolted down the lathe, right? Drill one more hole big enough for a socket and extension.

That original bearing would likely just be pressed on the shaft. Press it off, or use a metal cut off wheel and slit it down one side to knock it off. Then do some measuring and buy a new bearing.
