We just hosted Alan at our club for an all day demo and two days of hands-on. The entire club felt it was some of the best bang for the buck we had spent. The sharpening techniques and discussions...

The bed is about 140#, and each of the legs are about 75#. The headstock is around 100#, IIRC. You would be well advised to consider if there isn't some way to use a small truck instead of a car....
That's why I bought mine: I was looking at an eBay auction that was going to be $40-50 for four regular calipers. BTW, here's the link: http://www.petergalbertchairmaker.com/caliper.html
I bought one and think it's awesome! Now, for many items, I can simply use just one measuring device and sneak up on the correct diameter. I highly recommend it for all types of spindle work.
Pat,
I hadn't read your earlier post that you got the lathe, when I responded. My info was about initial assembly, etc. If you have the ways wiped clean and lubed, the lathe assembled, then you have...
Pat,
Go here: http://mustardmonster.googlepages.com/ and read the section about setup (and everything else, of course)! Welcome to mustard land!:)
Joseph,
Grats on the new addition. Go here: http://www.coeur-de-larbre.com/20424.html for a neat toolbox. Click on the projects tab and then go to lathe ballast/tool box. Hope this helps!

Whenever you use a chuck, it is critical that two surfaces make good contact with the piece. The faces that contract or expand to grip the wood; and the faces of the jaws that face the tailstock. You...
Richard,
That is very nice! I agree that you are being too hard on yourself. It's a good shape, and the designs are nice. Way to go!

One of our club members had the Model A, and he rigged a little mirror holder so that he could read the digital display on the back (in reverse of course).:D
You might try www.osolnikmachinery.com and see what they can do for you.
Kurt
The A model does not have built in spindle indexing. And, very recently, there was a post on one of the forums that someone had purchased an A model, and it did not have a through hole in the...
John,
If one of the free methods doesn't work, you can buy spray cans of OEM PM paint from www.osolnikmachinery.com.
Kurt
Robert,
Most of the older sets of Craftsman tools are carbon steel IIRC. They show up pretty frequently on eBay.
Kurt
Burt,
I have a 3520 that is now a little over a year old. I bought mine with the bed extension kit, the remote switch, and the dust collection hood.
The bed extension is awesome. For the most...

Brad,
I bought mine from Joe Osolnik and was delighted with the service he gave me. Any issues with the tool will likely be supported by the factory, and with other PM tools I own, the service has...
Brad,
You need to go see Joe Osolnik at Osolnik Machinery in Louisville. He has some of the best Powermatic pricing around, and I'm sure he would let you turn something on his. You can find him...
Mike,
Do you think you will have any problems with the pump mounted vertically? Lubrication, or something of that sort?
Kurt
Alex,
So glad to hear that you made it through this OK. Hope the rest of your Christmas is better!
A couple of safety suggestions. It looks as if you were turning this piece with the chuck in...
Bill,
There is a Woodfast 20" lathe on ebay right now. I don't know what the reserve is, and the lathe is in Jackson, MS, but it looks like it is in primo condition, and it is a very good lathe. You...
John,
As others have said, yes, you do need to turn a dovetail on the tenon to match the dovetail on your chuck. Not all chucks have a dovetail, so you need to make the tenon match the chuck.

Tim,
I realize that anyone can be a genius after the fact, but my understanding of a suspended bowl or box was that when it was sitting on all four points, the bottom of the bowl was (suspended) off...
