Jimmy thanks for the tip. I followed up with a second test applying glue to the dominoes and the mortises. The board length was reduced by 2" to 32.5" so that reduced the stress on the joint by 6%....
Have to agree regarding no glue on the dominos. I'm going to repeat the test with glue. One thought is that the domino / mortise fit is tight so not much room for glue.
I ran a rough test for my own information and thought I'd share the results. I took a popular board 5-1/2' x 34-1/2" and sawed it in half. I then machined mortises for three 6mm dominoes evenly...
I have a Festool 125 sander and dust collector. My shop is a 100 yards or so from the house. I use the Festool dust collector working in the house and a shop vac down the street. The all Festool...
I loan tools to friends and neighbors and am rarely sorry. Loaned a wheel barrow to my neighbor a few weeks ago and some fellows he hired for a job, despite his explicit instructions, mixed concrete...
Thanks very much for all the very valuable suggestions. I see where I can make a number of improvements in how I go about things.

I'm working on a built in bookcase that's just under 8 ft high and 10" deep, made of popular. I picked up a load of 13/16 thick material which included several 8' long boards 11 to 12" wide. I ran...
It's been a while since you posted so you have probably sprung for one or the other but I share tools with a friend who has a HF bandsaw which is very handy and works well. He does not have the stand...
The nearest Woodcraft to me is 100 miles away in Roanoke Va but fortunately also in Roanoke are a couple of lumber suppliers. I always swing by the store when I go for material and try to put off...
The shelves will fill the space between two doors. My plan is to build a base, level it and install the shelves on it. I think the baseboard will have to go so the shelves can contact and be attached...
Yes I've gotten valuable advice which I appreciate. I was planning on adjustable shelves. A fixed one is a good idea. The sides will be visible. I have to admit I have an extensive library of hard...
Andrew thanks for all the suggestions. I'm planning for a face frame. Good point about the base height I need to revisit that. One piece is an option but there will be a seam in the back to deal...
I looked at breaking it down that is a possibility. House is well over 100, 9 ft ceilings on the second story 10 on the first.
I'm a DYI guy with a fair number of projects under my belt but I've been "circling" one involving the construction of a set of built in oak bookshelves. I envision two side by side shelf casings 36"...
Go to a level store that accepts returns and pick one out that's the length you want. Two things to check 1. Is it flat 2. Does the bubble repeatable. First to check flatness put two levels together...
Since you know the final size of the bench run a test. Use plywood, cut two pieces, place them across a couple of saw horses. Then get say 6 F clamps and clamp the two pieces together, 3 clamps to...
I'm wrestling with the same problems. My shop is 100 years old this year. I believe originally it was a small auto dealership . The floor was intentionally poured on a slant presumably to allow water...

8 mm is .31496" so 5/16 should work fine.

#14 SO Cable is rated for 15 amps so it seems that would be the right choice. On the other hand how often are the routers going to pull full load and for how long? In any case I'd be looking for a...
Again thanks for all the tips. Much appreciated.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to try the syringe method. I've used the thin strip on things like shutters and it has worker well but this piece was and I hope will again be a nice piece of...
I made a bonehead mistake from which to recover / repair requires that I apply glue deep into a thin crack, photo attached. I've googled, for example wood glue syringe and find numerous options. I'd...
Here's an interesting link which may be of help.

On McMaster Carr's site search for drill bushings. They are normally used on jigs to drill holes precisely on multiple parts on manual drill presses. CR steel rod will fit nicely in them.
