Thanks everyone for the suggestions!
For whatever reason, the .ai files created by Photoshop "Export Paths" would not convert to .svg except by CorelDraw. They might convert in Adobe Illustrator,...
Hi Roger!
Thanks for the comments. I'm using Photoshop to select the subjects of my photos I want to cut out on the laser. It does a remarkable job selecting. I export the selections as AI file...
Thanks, Dave, I will try each of those converters. I have tried several, but so far none produce a SVG that plays well with the xTool XCS software.
I'm going to have to return my new xTool P2 laser if I can't find a way to laser cut the work path I make in Photoshop.
The xTool only likes SVG files and PS 2024 only exports .ai files. There...
Hi Richard!
Actually the xTool P2 is a 55W CO2 laser.

Thank you, fellas, for all the great brainstorming! I was never able to get good cuts on laminated photos on acrylic, since the laser was new 17 years ago. After spending hundreds of hours, I gave...
Hi Mike, I have tried it both ways: Honeycomb and the flat engraving table.
I thought I was on to something tonight when I noticed very little air flow in the air assist. But, I fixed that, and...
My laser: 40W ULS VersaLaser with 2" lens
Laser settings: power=90%, speed=3.6%, PPI=300, z=.110" With and without air assist.
The material: 3/16" cast acrylic, with 8mil photo print and 3mil...
Now I see where your tagline comes from! 😃
Gary above says it is .030". I wonder if the smaller dot might make up for some of that when cutting. I'd like to hear from someone who uses that lens to see how it does.
That's a good point about the depth of field, Gary. My work would be very flat and smooth, so that part might not be a problem. But Mike mentions below, it might be a problem cutting 3/16".
Thanks, Mike. I was thinking the extra small beam of the HPDFO might help. ULS says it is .001"
With my 2" lens I tried your suggestion to lower the focus but maybe I just didn't hit the sweet...
Thanks, Gary. I believe I tried that in the past... it has been a while, but I will certainly try it again.
Does anybody make a camera registration device for the Universal VLS 3.50 Versalaser?
Thanks!
Al
I have a 40W ULS Versalaser 3.50 and I would like to be able to cut photo prints that are laminated with 10mil glossy film and stuck to 3/16" acrylic. I want to cut through the print and acrylic.

As per Paul's thread below, Evergreen is the way to go. Thanks for your help, Brian.
Al
Paul, that is exactly what I was looking for! Your thread re. Evergreen has convinced me to go with Evergreen.
Thank you!
Al
Thanks, Brian. Would you mind telling me where you sent your tube for recharge?
Al
At your suggestion, I removed the nozzle. I could see that the beam had been hitting it, at least in the past, but removing it didn't fix the tube...that would be too easy! Is there any down-side...
My laser has lost almost all power. Can't cut 3/16" acrylic even at 100% power .5 % speed.
I have 48VDC on both power supplies.
Here's the WEIRD PART: In order to test the power supplies, the...
"...leaving it as a color bitmap but using
Desaturate in Photoshop?"
I have not, but I'm about to try that. It sounds like it may just solve the problem. May not have to replace the gradient...
I start with a color bit map image which includes a color gradient;

Converted to 8 bit gray scale looks like this;...
Excellent! I'm placing my order right now. Thanks, Scott!
VHB may be the answer. It does stick well, but the stuff I have is about .040" and may be too thick for my application. I'll check Johnson for the thin. Thanks for the tip!
