Just curious. Wouldn't a paper towel rubbed on freshly applied shellac stick to the shellac as the bowl is turning? Seems to me it would be better to use a no-lint rag, but I may be wrong.
For what it's worth, I can see the photos. Also, nice work, Julie!
I never would've thought of that. Did you turn the black one into a bowl? Looks like it from what I'm seeing. Nice job!!
Ah, lacquer!!! I can almost smell it through my computer!! Love this piece.
Alan, I grew up in a musical family. We'd have regular get-togethers, which would be called guitar pulls except for the fact my two sisters were pretty unique pianists and they'd also play along. I...
I may have misled those of you who might have read this post. There are 441 lots total. While the initial notice I received indicated included machinery and wood for guitars, I've now glanced over...
I just received a pop-up message that Peavey is selling off old equipment, machinery, amps, wood, etc. that it no longer needs or uses. I thought some might be interested to know that. For a...
I thought you were a lacquer guy, all the way!!
I decided to chime in on this one, just for the fun of it. I can second what Roger Chandler told you. I bought a Jet 1642 2hp several years ago. Being the tight individual I am, I ordered a couple...
My son is a professional drummer, so I tried making some sticks for him years ago. I made a pair of hickory sticks and then a pair of bocote sticks. He just displays the bocote sticks and won't use...
Great ingenuity and work!!
If I'm understanding you correctly, you're wanting something like a wagon wheel, with the outer ring attached to the hub by several spindles (hope that makes sense). My grandfather, now deceased...
John, you've made me curious. You said the acorn tops are easier to spin for the children. Do they spin as long as the shorter, wider tops, too?
Just checked back in to see if there were any responses. Thanks to all for your input!!
First off, my fault for not clarifying the difference between the two words, "craftsmanship" and...
I quit turning for a year or two, but just recently starting turning again. Before I took my hiatus, I'd purchased some carbide cutter tools and used them on a very limited basis for specific...
Sorry I've been away for awhile. To answer your question, Shawn, I only have a Vox Valvetronic AD 1000VT. It's a weird mixture of an amp for a classical guitar, but that amp was really bought for...
Thanks Mark! Insomnia came over to visit with me tonight so i thought I'd check back in on this site while I'm waiting for him to leave. Now I think I understand, at least enough to wing my way...
Hey folks: this question does NOT involve a musical instrument build, so it may not qualify for posting. If it doesn't, Mr/Mrs moderator, I apologize and you may feel free to delete it. Otherwise,...
This WTF is new to me, too. Do you guys spray this on, as suggested in the Amazon site, or is it possible to wipe on? I don't have a HVLP set-up, so would it be futile for me to go down this path...
I can't attest to how well they work, but Packard Woodworks advertises CBN cleaning sticks, which will apparently help with restoring (to some degree?) your CBN wheel.
Based on what I'm getting so far, if I were to try this, I'd need to try a leg bone, which I'd suspected, plan on the wall of the bone being pretty thin and marrow-filled, and then removing the...
I've been a Creek member for a few years, but not actively posting. I've ascribed to the thought that if I waited, I could usually find the questions I had asked by someone else and answered by...
As long as you don't have huge dips in the floor to deal with, I understand that the Great Lakes casters mentioned by Russ and the Zambus model casters may have an advantage, since they can...
I've run into the same situation myself. The brass piece on the Tormek jig has a narrow ridge that will odinarily ride "in the flute" of the gouge. When the gouge has been ground down over time,...
