Man, I wish you were closer. I've been looking for one of these without having to pay Grizzly's prices. Any chance you are traveling east any time soon? I'd give you $250 for the trouble.
I like using a box rest with various tools for boxes up to about 6" deep.
The Jointer is sold
Grizzly G0656PX 8" Jointer. Spiral cutting head. 3HP. 220VAC. Very light use. Build-in mobility kit. 72" table. Works great. Only selling because I bought a jointer/planer combo unit.
$1200....
I've never done this. I've only seen it on the web. Some have used a router attached to a base that follows a template of the desired profile. The template is cut from hardboard or other flat hard...
Good to know.
I have both the Nova and a Oneway. I use both all the time. Each has advantages over the other. The Nova has a lot of versatility. One is the use of the Nova scroll chuck adapter that is live...
It's fine. I would just add it to my collection of screw-ups. Or give it to a non-turner. They'll never notice.
However, I probably would have done it as inlay to begin with. No pattern...

I'm with Reed. The Lenox bimetals are hard to beat. Last a long time. It's all I buy now
The VM120 with the standard and a 4" jaw set is a good choice. I've turned quite a few 14"+ bowls on the standard 2" jaws. With solid wood and a non-aggressive cut, it's plenty safe. The issue is...
You might need something like this:

You want a good machined spacer to keep things running...
I see several of those bunched together to make hydrangea bouquets. Might could use a ball split in half as a form. Then use some kind of spray on coating. Not sure what would work best though. ...
I have the chefwarekits thread/sphere combo jig. Well made tool. Getting the jig/cutter parallel to the headstock/workpiece is the key to nice fitting threads. Not too hard to do though. I have...
That wood looks like it is tough to carve. Looks like a real wrist work out. All my carving tools are full size Ashley Iles or Pfeil. I can see the advantage of the short handled tools for what...
Thanks for sharing, Bruce. Interesting to watch.
Nice. What a luxury to have access to turnable Teak. I would love to turn a salad bowl set from Teak to use every day.
Did you ever reach out directly to Powermatic?
There seems to be a trend toward more DC motors on lathes. Not sure if driven by cost/simplicity or "product improvement". I suspect the former is the driving reason. Seldom see a "product...
I suggest you search this forum (and others) for vacuum chuck systems. You'll find lots of good ideas and variations. A number of ways to go. You have to decide what you want.
I read a bunch...
There are many. If you want a respirator style mask look at the powercap sold by Peke Safety. One of my favorite purchases.
Robust or Advancedlathetools are good sources for tool rests. Robust...
I use a disk sander. Mostly because I have it. It works good enough for me. However, it does nothing for cleaning out the barrel like the mills do. Someday I'll probably get a limited mill set,...
If you look at offerings across the www, $250 to over $400 is the going price. You might find one around $200, but most are $250 - $275ish. There are plans to make your own from threaded pipe. ...
I don't own either, but I'll give my thoughts on them. The Rikon expanding bed is nice if you are space limited. OTH, that feature also means no sliding or rotating headstock. That would be a deal...
