I have 8 Jorgensen parallel clamps (4-24 4-36)
Thinking about selling them and getting Dubuque Aluminum clamps. I have some of the harbor freight knockoffs and like them. I like to use the HF...
that was my first thought too. both the toe and heel are cut so they must of been a bit clumsy.

When you get it set up it is a fun tool to use. I had some trouble with mine at first turned out the blade was sharpened a bit off the proper angle.
You most likely just need to retention the saw plate. Simple fix here are some helpful links.

Just saw this on the bay looks like some one machined down a No.5 and mad it in to a low angle plane. just to neat I had to pass it along.

what is stopping you from just drilling threw the base that is there and adding your new base? No need to remove what is there just add to it.

It does not mater what you buy...
I do the same thing on a belt grinder but I just use a cheap knock off eclipse honing guide. I put it rite on the belt and the roller wheel spins with the belt so there is no damage to the guide...
All so do not let the chisel get to hot. If you can not touch it you are getting hotter than I like to go. To hot and you can lose the temper.
