By the P/N 351217170, that is the 15" x 36" lathe, not 60". It is one of the biggest POS machines ever made. Are you sure the bed is 60" long?
The lathe I'm thinking about has a reeves drive & no...
Goodbye Andy, RIP.
Here's a link to 1/4" cutters, they are 2 1/2" for a 1.00, cut them in half & they are only .50 ea. I bought 4 of the 3/16" to use with my Jamieson rig for 2.90, & now have 8 cutters....
Steve,Your description is pretty much what happened, makes sense as it did not seem to bother my friend at all. .
Dick, I only looked at the bark in your pic, never turned white oak, just Post Oak, Red Oak, & Live oak, China Berry is not like those. Red oak does have the smoother bark in it's
younger stage...
Looks like China berry to me, got a few of them on my property here in TX.
I went to visit a friend from my club Sat to work with him on some sharpening issues.
He has a Nova DVR lathe, after I changed some of his bevel angles I tried each gouge
cutting a small piece of...
The air blowing back at you is also blowing over the length of the motor keeping it cool by design. Here in South Texas the breeze is welcome....There are tons of aftermarket tool rest out there.
Been using Rhynogrip from Industrial Abrasives for several years now, great stuff. Buy the 1 yard x 1 yard sheets & cut it into whatever size you want. I make my own pads & this works great for me....
I started turning a palm vase last night, it has been setting for 4 yrs. I turned a tenon then soaked the tenon with a bunch of thin ca glue to try & harden it, but it still needs support to keep it...
1. "Sir" Richard Raffan, I'm sure he's been Knighted by now...
2. Stuart Batty, he's changed the way I turn for the better.
3. Did i say Stuart Batty.
Joshua,
Check the inside washer on that side of your grinder, lot of times it's
the washer that's out of round causing wobble..
I have both the airshield reg & the pro. I used the airshield for 2 yrs prior
to getting the pro, for me the pro is far more comfortable than the first
generation, the battery last twice as long,...
[quote=Cary Falk;1086700]Thad,
I owned the Craftsman 12" for several years. I don't remember what the quill travel was but it was not enough for drilling pens.
I bought the Craftsman 12" drill...
Bonnie, I've used that very same attachment on my previous Sears/Palmgren lathe & it works fine, It was sturdier than I thought
it would be as it bolts to the end of the ways. It's a pain to adjust...
I've seen this as low as $99 on sale at HF. Big issue for me is MT1, nothing I have would fit it, or I would have considered it for pens at
$99.
I have one, club members have a couple more, we use it, we like it, &
it does a good job for a HF product. We also just had a demo on the
saw blade sharpener, it did good too!
It's always nice to get "Brand New", 5 year warranty = peace of mind.
2850 sounds like a good price delivered.
If you smoothed the bottom side of the ways prior to your problem
of slipping then that's probably the cause, the bottom of the ways
should be slightly rough to help hold the clamp in place. If...
Don, great looking coffee scoop, haven't made that style yet
but I saw a demo on the net with Ruth Niles turning a scoop &
I copied her style (no propeller) here's a link to it....
My Grainger rep at work emailed me some info on a 3M CA product,
It looks interesting, here's a copy & paste of the description.
3M Rite-Lok

I can see putting some Butter Pecan in it! Great looking
Ice cream bowl!
Great looking pen ken! Glad you got the 3520B pen lathe!
From what our President told us, as long as the officers of the club
are members of AAW then you are covered for demo's & visitors etc.
But you should still check with the AAW.
