Oxalic acid, which was once sold as wood brightener, and is useful for removing the black iron stains on wood, will turn the green to brown nearly instantly
Per Laguna, The interior thread on the outboard spindle of the Laguna Revo Lathes is 1/4"NPT
The biggest issue I have with mineral oil is that it never truly dries, it just sinks in. If I were looking for an oil and wax blend I would probably use walnut oil instead. I do tend to avoid wax...
Particularly nice. My experience spindle turning 2nd growth glued up cypress has convinced me that I would rather turn anything else. SOft, with pronounced difference in densit between early and...
Mineral spirits, lacquer thinner or acetone, possibly citrus solvents as well will remove wax and most of the mineral oil. Apply a barrier coat of de-waxed shellac and then apply lacquer.
I have 5 lathes now, one of which is the Rikon in question. If you have room for 2 lathes it isnn't crazy to want 2. It is not uncommon for me to have projects where 2 or 3 of the lathes are in use....
The fact that catalog information on the lathe is currently available is not surprising. The 3520C is expected to arrive sometime in December. It will not be available for the Black Friday sale
I have had one since they were introduced to the US. The ProEdge is easily portable, unlike bench grinders. Changing from coarse to fine abrasives takes only seconds. Changing angle for scrapers,...
There should be one on display at the Klingspor Extravaganza late Oct or early Nov. Lathes are tentatively available November.
There is a rotary adaptor for the Laguna, you can get it through their customer service. It comes with a small length of hose attached, which you can connect to your own hose. It is also possible...
They should not spin. HoldFast should replace them, although the technical master at HoldFast said that if you hold them in place and apply thin CA glue they usually firm up and work fine.
The rear bearings are too small, and mounted directly into a molded seat in the drill housing. When the bearing gives up and seizes, the outer race spins in the case and melts the bearing seat, so...
The Pro Edge is an excellent system. Compact, with quick belt changes for going from coarse to fine depending on need, fast and repeatable angles for the platform that don't even require turning the...
Chuck manufacture was halted around the time Pony Tools bought EWT, then the Pony Tools bankruptcy and the subsequent sale of EWT occurred. Some mention was made of finding a new manufacturer for...
I really like my Rikon70-220VSR. I especially like the 1" post on the tool rest, having broken several Jet and Delta 5/8" posts over the years.
I think you would call them Box Rests. Best Wood Tools makes 2, maybe not 5" long, but a better platform than a traditional rest. Packard Woodworks has them, perhaps others as well.
I would wait longer for buffing. Even lacquer requires more than overnight to be hard enough to buff well. I would leave any poly or varnish for a week or more. The harder the finish has cured,...
It really is going to depend on your market. Shows and shops that move a lot of traditional and functional wares are notoriously poor at selling objects that tilt the balance more towards art than...
Never heard of it and Google produced no first page hits, so more info is needed.
I have one. Very quiet, smooth with more speed than any one will ever need. Nice electronic depth stop feature. Bigger table than most drill presses. You can program a number of operations, or...
Proxxon and Merlin 2 are not the same handpiece. The original Merlin package used the Proxxon mini grinder but the Merlin 2 is quieter and cooler. The Arbortech is a good tool but since it is...
The only monkey pod I have turned was wet as it could be, holding an incredible amount of water. After flash drying and sanding, large bands would shrink and fuzz up. Not the best green tiurning...
The 5/8" shank Munro hollower 2 has been replaced with the Munro Wundercutt 10, with some changes in the tip, and a negative rake presentation of the cutter. The 3/4" Munro Hollower still uses the...
After the equivalent of 3 days at 70 degrees, you can top coat with poly, varnish, lacquer, or conversion varnish with no problems. I never use water borne finishes, so I can't tell you about those....
